Matara is a not for profit
company, committed to explore
and advance the education of the
public in the principles of well
being.
The beauty and tranquillity of
Matara has naturally attracted
people to celebrate their
weddings and special occasions
and this is one of the main
activities that takes place
here. We host weddings,
anniversaries, birthdays, and
funeral gatherings, as well as
providing a inspired meeting
place for socially committed
organisations and groups.
What inspired Matara
Matara is the vision of Geoffrey
Higgins. He grew up in a green
belt area of the industrial
Midlands he experienced the
serious impacts of
industrialization on its natural
beauty but also its subsequent
renewal as the rivers came back
to life and the air became
fresher once the problem of
industrial waste began to be
addressed. From this he
developed a lifelong passion for
bringing harmony of place and
people.
Matara was envisioned to reflect
a more organic life
style and earth friendly place,
where people could reconnect
with
nature and their inner selves
and live in a more harmonious,
unified way. Matara was designed
to be an oasis of renewal in a
world of stress and disharmony.
Our challenge is to establish an
environmentally sustainable,
spiritually fulfilling and
socially just presence on the
planet as the guiding principle
of our time
