Many brides and grooms choose Matara because they want to make their wedding day a day to remember without compromising their lifestyle and values. Matara’s team can help you to balance style, tradition and ecology, so that you really can have a Green Wedding.
This can be a wonderful way to show that you care about more than just one day. When you reflect your values and beliefs, your wedding day can be a much more meaningful way to begin your lives together.
Whether it’s a wedding dress made from organic fabric, invitations printed on re-cycled paper, organic locally sourced food or a horse and carriage, we have a wealth of resources to help you create your perfect day arranged around eco-friendly principles.
Matara’s green values and commitment
Matara was built with many ecological principles in mind from utilising local, sustainable, building materials to installing high performance windows and energy saving insulation designed to use only a quarter of the energy of a traditional building.
All of the used (black) water from the centre is regenerated to living water through our reed bed pond system.
Our guests have planted hundreds of trees, through tree dedications, to off-set the carbon we create during the activities at Matara. Matara endeavours to bring as many activities as possible in-house to save travel and to reduce the environmental impact.
We aim to:
- source local, fresh, organic food
- purchase Fair Trade products
- use non-toxic, eco-friendly, cleaning products
- use natural flower petals as confetti
- encourage the use of seasonable and local flowers and plants and provide many plants as decor
- source products that can be recycled
We are committed to ecological literacy and sustainability at Matara and are undergoing a Green Audit, so that we can do everything within our means to be environmentally responsible, raise awareness and help make a positive impact on our shared planet.
Your green values can be expressed at Matara and incorporated within our wedding planning service.
“We are, each of us Angels with only one wing: and we can only fly by embracing each other.” – Luciano de Crescenzo
