Leave the Everyday Behind

tori arch to leave everyday behind

Matara welcomes you to come and experience it's gardens and parklands and leave the everyday behind. As you explore you will pass through gates, arches and doorways. Passing each threshold will take you to a new world, escaping ordinary life.

This has been inspired by traditional Chinese gardens where arches and gates are used to symbolize the crossing from everyday life to a place of beauty, tranquility and reflection. Geoffrey, the founder and amazing creator of Matara, invites visitors and staff to pause as they transition from one place to another demarked by gateways.

This begins as you come from the car park and walk through the beautiful red Tori Arch towards the entrance of the centre. Here is a pictorial diary of some of our favourites at Matara.
